Professional Information
I am Eliezer Urbano, a nurse at Mary Immaculate Hospital. I’m a relatively new nurse that graduated from Thomas Nelson Community College. I joined Mary Immaculate, a hospital of Bon Secours Health System, in October of 2013. I am proud to say that I am approaching my second year as I work towards this Bachelor’s in Nursing. My workplace “home” is on the Medical floor which I see as a jack-of-all-trades floor. I think that the varied nature of the cases on the Medical floor is helping me gain experience in many different situations. My career has been short, but it seems I’ve made an impact in my workplace. At the beginning of the year, I was awarded employee of the month. Then, in June of this year, I was given the Daisy Award in nursing. I’ve also been participating in research about hourly rounding. I will be presenting our team’s findings in this year’s Magnet Conference. The gist is that rounding encourages observation and improves patient satisfaction! Eventually, I think that I would like to use the experience I gain in order to teach up-and-coming nurses in a clinical setting. Continuing my education will help me to this end. Aside from my Associate’s Degree in Nursing, I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Old Dominion University.
Personal Information
Some of my hobbies include playing video games and watching “anime” or “Japanimation.” My favorite video game of all time is Super Smash Brothers Melee, and I occasionally compete in local tournaments for fun and to meet other good players. I also enjoy traveling to conventions where I can meet my favorite voice actors and other creative staff. The Hampton Roads area hosts a few of these conventions every year, and I volunteer to staff for those conventions. Aside from my hobbies, I’ve also picked up on a more active lifestyle since nursing school. I’ve been learning to eat better and my favorite calorie-burning activity is outdoor running – my favorite haunt is Newport News Park. I’m proud to say that I’ve lost more than 80 pounds!
